So another of former president Trump’s show trials began Monday.  In question is the “hush money” he purportedly paid to porn star Stormy Daniels.  Let’s have a look at what we know.

  • The trial is overtly political.  The prosecutor, Alvin Bragg – like his colleague Leticia James, who brought prosecution of Trump in a fraud case with no victims and no fraud – promised to “get Trump” and has been hell-bent on doing that for two years by fair means or foul.  The current trial is a perfect example of “foul.”
  • The crime is, ipso facto, a misdemeanor:  miscategorization of accounts in a business ledger.  The statute of limitations ran out on the infraction more than two years ago.
  • Both the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and the Department of Justice had previously reviewed the so-called “facts” of Alvin Bragg’s putative case.  Both rather emphatically declined to prosecute.
  • To bring the case, Mr. Bragg had to Federalize it, so he claims election fraud is involved. That allows him, if one squints at the law just right, to claim that this business is not in fact a misdemeanor but multiple felonies.  It also means that he, a local DA, is prosecuting a federal crime. There is no precedent for any of this.
  • To bring prosecution, Mr. Bragg had to come up with a very novel legal theory involving suspension of prosecutions due to COVID.  There is no precedent for this.
  • Because of the above, Mr. Bragg, a New York District Attorney, finds himself essentially prosecuting a Federal crime.  There is no precedent for this.
  • The daughter of the judge in this case is a senior official of a Democrat fundraising group with strong ties to both Congressman Adam Schiff and Vice President Kamala Harris.  The group has used the trial in fundraising solicitations, a clear conflict of interest.  There IS precedent for this, all of it ridiculously bad.
  • The supposed recipient of the “hush money” has stated in writing that she received nothing of the kind. Perhaps payment disappeared into the pocket of Richard Cohen, Trump’s supposed go-between in the matter.  It wouldn’t be the first time that happened, as has been proven in court
  • .
  • The prosecution’s key witness, the aforementioned Mr. Cohen, was called a “serial perjurer” by the judge in his last felony conviction.

Nevertheless, Alvin Bragg has Donald Trump in court – and off the campaign trail, which was really the whole purpose. And, despite the looney legal justifications and general lack ‘o crime, he just may get a conviction.  It is Manhattan after all, where Trump-hating is a cottage industry and 90% of the jury pool voted against him the last time ‘round.  Don’t look for anything like the fairness or impartiality the Constitution promises here.

This is yet another show trial in the Democrat party’s desperate attempt to cling to power by any means necessary.  This prosecution and its rotten cousins around the country can all be filed in the manila folder stamped TINPOT DICTATORSHIP in letters one could read from space.

It is shameful, but the Democrat party has no shame.  It is unspeakably dangerous for the example and the precedents it sets, but the Democrat party will risk anything to cling to power.  It is the apotheosis of hypocrisy – the party that claims its rival is a “threat to democracy” trying by hook or crook to remove him from the ballot and to jail him through misapplication of laws.

What we see before us is the poisonous fruit of more than a century of Democrat party flirtation with the authoritarian tenets of Progressivism:  the centralization of power, the rule of experts, the bureaucratic ordering of national life and above all, the stifling of dissent.  To the Progressive mind, opposition to the one true faith in omnipotent government ruling in accordance with the “national will” as defined by themselves is a combination of treason and heresy.  As such it must not only be countered but crushed and eliminated entirely, together with its adherents.

Hence the show trials.  They serve not only to hinder and punish the Democrats’ political opponent, they are a warning to anyone else who would dare raise a voice against the omnipotent elite:  if we can do this to the richest and most powerful, what do you think we can do to you?

Anything we want.  Lavrentiy Beria couldn’t have done it better.

Which is as compelling a reason I can think of to elect Donald Trump in November.  Yes, his reelection will help to reestablish real, not inflationary growth.  It will serve as a deterrent to further mischief by our enemies abroad and it will signal a return to some sort of domestic sanity, in which the security and interests of citizens are once again preferred over those of  the millions who have both entered and remain in our country illegally under Joe Biden’s hapless excuse for a presidency so that his well-heeled contributors may enjoy cheap lawn care..  But the real reason is, yes, retribution:  to tear apart the corrupt, America-hating political cabal which has brought us the Tin-Pot rule of people content to burn this country to the ground, provided they get to rule the ashes.

They, and the entire system they have created, have got to be swept from the stage of American life.  While there is still an America to save.
