Remember back in 2009 when, after a hard-fought campaign, we elected Valerie Jarrett?  No?

How about in 2012, when David Plouffe won election in a walk?  Nothing?

Or in 2020, when Ron Klain and Anita Dunn were swept into office?   Still drawing a blank?

Then stop with the “Nobody elected Elon” twaddle.  Nobody elected any of those very powerful political actors either.

The only difference is that Elon Musk is actually doing what President Donald Trump, who was elected, appointed him a special presidential advisor to do.  But Progressives, who see their entire raison d’etre to be growing government and the rule of experts, don’t like it. So it must  be wrong, or at least “undemocratic.”  Which attitude makes them wrong twice.

What Elon Musk and his “DOGE” group – government employees all, remember that – is doing is eliminating that old bugaboo:  “waste, fraud and abuse.” Their principal crime is that they are actually eliminating said waste, fraud and abuse, as opposed to yammering endlessly about doing it while sitting on their hands, a generations of anti-wasters have before them.  They are criminals in the eyes of the Left because they are succeeding.

So they must be stopped, before they drag into public view the entire government apparatus through which public funds are transferred to non-governmental agencies and thence to Progressive fronts and their political beneficiaries like Stacy Abrams, AOC, Jaime Raskin and others. Not to mention groups like  the Climate Justice Alliance, WE ACT or the New Jersey Alliance for (Illegal) Immigrant Justice.  It’s a sordid mess, and we’re about to see a good deal of it.

Why are Democrats so afraid of the exposure of waste and grift in the Federal government?  Why are they embracing violence, arson and even murder to stop the process in its tracks?  Why do they take the side of every low-level Bureaucrat who finds ten ways to say something can’t be done, while howling for the blood of people who, when told something is impossible, say simply “Yeah?  Well, watch this…”   Time will tell, and I think not much time at that.

Perhaps they are simply afraid of a future freer of the central government’s heavy hand, one which over the past century has compelled more and more allegiance to the principles of Progressivism..  And like many who are befuddled and have limited coping skills, their fears quickly metamorphosed into violence.  The party of the KKK reverted to type:  the night attack;  the terrorism; the burnings, shootings and bombings;  the threats against their opponents, the mobs and the destruction of property.  It’s sad in a way:  thwarted in their dreams of creating an authoritarian socialist state, they couldn’t escape their history.  Instead of creating something new to address a new situation, they drew on the oldest and darkest parts of their history to respond to Donald Trump’s initiatives in ways that only sink them deeper into hatred.  One can see it when they speak.

What will happen going forward?  It’s certain that the work of DOGE will continue;  it’s simply too central to President Trump’s promises to be halted. What will the Democrat response be?  In all likelihood, more rate, more hatred, more violence.  They seem unable to stop themselves, or to want to do so.  Eventually, there will be a culminating event, and people will be killed. At that point, Democrats will hopefully be called upon to justify themselves.

Why is violence their first response to any challenge?  Why are personal threats and destructive acts a first resort?  Why do they so often express hatred toward those who disagree with them?  And above all, why do they love the current status quo so much they spring to arson and battery in its defense?

I fear we won’t hear truthful responses to these questions;  that would highlight the rot at the heart of America’s oldest political party.
