They just won’t give up. “The president is illegitimate,” one recently bleated. “The election was stolen.”
“The election was no good,” added another. The entire leadership in Washington concurred. There was theft. There was voter interference. There was denial of the franchise and other heinous fuckery resulting in a stolen election.
But enough about Democrats.
Uh huh. Democrats. The familiar names among which, from Joe Biden to Kamela Harris, to Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Diane Feinstein, Debbie Wassermann Schultz, Howard Dean, Ron Klain, Elizabeth Warren and more than 70 others are busily conjugating “election denial” in all its tenses. Elections have been stolen from us. Elections are being stolen from us. Elections will be stolen from us. Some of the above have advocated violence against winners.
Most have objected to one or more elections in which a Republican won the presidency over the past 20 years. Many objected to all the Republican victories. A considerable number, including Howard Dean, Dick Durban, Debbie Stabenow, the late Harry Reid and ex-senators Frank Lautenberg and Tom Harkin fingered voting machines as somehow being responsible for these “stolen” elections.
I eagerly await the subpoenas, the public charges of being “threats to democracy,” the following opprobrium and the arrests made against these election-denying monsters.
As if.
No, “election denial” and its related ill effects are relegated by the ruling party and its slavish legacy media to being a product of conservatives. Like the continuously-repeated smear of the “Big Lie” aimed at anyone with doubts about the methodologies and results of 2020, “election denial” has been declared by Those Who Know as the exclusive province of the Republican party. It’s a lie, as the above list amply demonstrates. But the credulous will lap up anything that fits their preconceived notions, so Stacy Abrams declaring that the Governorship of Georgia was stolen from her is only prudent speech, not sour grapes. Ditto with the five-year-and-more-long lie that Vladimir Putin put Donald Trump in office.
Now we are on the cusp of another important election – perhaps it will be a “hinge” election to absolutely reject the nonsense boiling to the surface in the Democrat party and elsewhere over the past two years – the race-hustling, self-loathing, capitalist-bashing, norm-rejecting caprices of bicoastal elites, increasingly isolated from and uncaring about the great majority of Americans. As Nancy Pelosi might put it, “Let them eat chocolate ice cream…”
The views and opinions of these elites are poisoned, perhaps beyond recovery, by their self-image: only they, because of their self-obvious moral superiority and powerful intelligence, are fit to rule. Consequently, the election of any other candidate is an aberration and the product of skullduggery or outright criminality. Even when it’s the product of popular disgust with the unending lectures and out-of-touch self-righteousness of these same self-proclaimed elites.
Something to keep in mind as November 8 looms. Have you voiced your opinion yet?
